This page maintains a list of missing pieces to turn the web into a proper OS.

  • Payments (tentative solution: requestAutocomplete())
  • Camera (requires improved getUserMedia(); see Mediastream Image Capture)
  • Disk access for photos and music (requires much improved <input type=file>, ability to scan directories, return files of certain type)
  • Storage (see StorageDurability)

These are sometimes suggested as requirements, but are less convincing:
