Most of the difficulty with CSS is caused by incomplete IE's implementation (notably lack of display:table-cell
). Specyfing even more advanced table-like constructs won't improve IE6's implementation a bit.
And of course there's no reason to tie this layout to particular element names, so this proposal belongs to CSS and is out of scope of HTML.
