Copyright

  • I did put a public domain copyright notice here, but was told the wiki was initially under the GFDL before the reinstall, so I've had to change it back. Although GFDL is at least acceptable, personally, I don't believe in sticking copyright notices on such things and would like everything here to just go in the Public Domain (cause, seriously, who really cares what someone wants to use it for?), but it would require all existing contributors to agree. So, which licence do you think we should use? --Lachlan Hunt 09:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
    • I have no problem with that; feel free to use anything I've written on the wiki as public domain. --Michel Fortin 13:52, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Any chance we could reuse freely what was written to the mailing list? I've reused some parts of my own emails in creating the Image Caption and Link Hashes pages; since I own the copyright on these emails there's no problem. But should we ask for permission before using other's people emails, even if the content is publicly available in the mailing list archive? Probably. And it seems the server is located in the US, so I guess it's the US fair use clauses that should apply when gathering examples or some other content from other sources, but that's just a guess. --Michel Fortin 13:52, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
      • As long as you cite it correctly and link back to the original (regardless of where it comes from), it falls under fair use. --Lachlan Hunt 06:36, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
