Note: Despite the name of the page, this is not a formal registry. It's just a list of types for documentation purposes. The authoritative source on MIME types is the IANA.

MIME types

This page is a list of MIME types. For each type, give a very brief (less than one line) description of the type, and then list the relevant and current specifications for the type and any parameters. Please keep the list in alphabetic order.

Types should only be listed if they fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Registered in the MIME Type Registry
  • In active use in a mostly consistent way to describe a specific file type
  • Have a specification that claims to define the type

When there is a contradiction between the IANA type registry, active use, and/or specifications, active use should be considered authoritative. When multiple specifications contradict each other, the most up to date (relative to reality) specification should be listed.
